Luke 8:24

First Nations Version

In desperation they woke him from his sleep and cried out, “Wisdomkeeper! Wisdomkeeper! We are all going to drown.” He woke up from his sleep, stood up, and spoke sharply to the wind and the raging water. At his words the wind stopped blowing and the waves calmed down. Great peace fell upon the surface of the waters.

He went and stood over her and told the fever to go, and it left! With a glad heart she got up and went to prepare a meal for them.


“Wisdomkeeper,” he answered, “we have been fishing all night and caught nothing, but because it is you who ask, I will do it.”


But when he felt how strong the wind was, fear took hold of him. He began to sink and cried out, “Wisdomkeeper, save me!”


In desperation they woke him up. “Wisdomkeeper!” they cried out. “We are fighting for our lives! Save us!”


He stood up and spoke sharply to the wind and said to the raging waters, “Calm down and be still!” Right then and there the wind died down, and a great peace fell upon the surface of the water.


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) spoke sharply to him, “Be silent! Leave this man now!” The evil spirit shook the man, threw him to the ground, and came out without hurting him.


He turned to his followers and said to them, “Where is your faith?” Amazed and afraid, they shook their heads and whispered to each other, “Who is this man? Even the wind and the waves listen to him!”
