“The rocky ground represents the ones who hear and receive the teaching with glad hearts, but because they have no roots, their faith is shallow and does not last. As soon as the teaching brings them trouble or opposition, they stumble and fall away.

These bad-hearted ones have no respect for the love you share when they feast with you at your sacred family gatherings. They are dark spots and stains on your gatherings, caring only for themselves. They are clouds with no rain, blown about by the winds. They are trees that have no fruit at the harvest moon. They are twice dead, with their roots plucked from the ground.


They have proved the truth of these wise sayings: “A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A pig after being washed goes back to wallowing in the mud.”


What would happen to those who, after being set free from the shameful ways of the world through knowing our Honored Chief and Sacred Deliverer, Creator Sets Free (Jesus) the Chosen One, were to be overcome by these ways and to choose to walk once again on that bad path? If that happened, they would be in a worse place than they were at first.


We are not the ones who turn back and lose their way, but we are the ones whose whole beings are kept safe and made whole by trusting in him.


In this way, the Chosen One will make his home in your heart. I pray that as you trust in him, your roots will go deep into the soil of his great love,


In the same way that a body has no life without the spirit, so faith has no life without deeds.


Keep your trust in the Chosen One strong and follow what you know deep inside to be true. Some have not listened to this inner voice, and their trust in the Chosen One has fallen to the ground.


So because I could not bear waiting any longer, I sent He Gives Honor (Timothy) to see whether you were still walking in our spiritual ways. For I feared that the evil trickster may have drawn you away, and our work among you would come to nothing.


Let your roots grow deep into him, and then your faith will grow strong and your steps will become firm on this path that you have learned to follow, always giving thanks to the Great Spirit.


I cannot believe that you have traveled so far just to end up at a dead end.

He cuts off the branches in me that have no fruit. He carefully trims back the branches with fruit, so they will grow more fruit.


Yes, all this is yours as you make your path straight on the road that leads to this hope, trusting in the good story that you have heard. This is the same story that is being told to all in creation who live under the spirit-world above. And I, Small Man (Paul), have dedicated my life to serve this good story.


I may have prophetic powers and the ability to see into sacred mysteries and understand all things. I might even have faith strong enough to make mountains move. But if I fail to love, I am nothing.


But Looks Brave (Herod) knew he was a man who walked in an upright and holy manner, so he was afraid and protected him. From time to time Looks Brave (Herod) liked to sit and listen to Gift of Goodwill (John), even though his words troubled him.


These false chosen ones were among us, but they did not belong, so they left. If they had truly belonged, they would have remained—but they left, showing that they did not belong.


“The village pathway represents the ones who hear, but then Accuser (Satan), the evil snake, sneaks up and steals the words out of their hearts to keep them from believing the teaching and being set free.


“The weeds and thistles represent the ones who have heard the teaching, but they are too busy worrying about their earthly possessions, so the teaching is choked and their faith stops growing good fruit.
