Luke 7:12

First Nations Version

As he came near the village gate, a man who had crossed over was being carried, wrapped in a blanket, to a burial site. He was the only son of his mother, a widow. A crowd of people from the village were walking with her.

He had an only daughter, about twelve winters old, who was dying. As Creator Sets Free (Jesus) went with the man, the crowd also trailed along, pressing in around him from all sides.


But the one whose spirituality is pure and spotless before our Father the Great Spirit takes care of widows and orphans, and keeps himself free from the evil ways of this world.


He reached out his hand to her and helped her up. He then called all the holy ones and the widows and stood her before them. She was alive!


Stands on the Rock (Peter) got right up and went with the men. When they arrived, they took him to where her body lay in the upstairs room. The widows came and stood next to him. The tears rolled down their faces as they showed him the beautiful garments Deer Eyes (Dorcas) had made when she was with them.


Many of the local Tribal Members had gathered, along with the women, to give comfort to Head Woman (Martha) and Healing Tears (Mary) for the loss of their brother.


All the people there were crying for the little girl. Creator Sets Free (Jesus) said to them, “Do not cry. The child is not dead. She only sleeps.”


Not long after this, Creator Sets Free (Jesus) and the ones who walked the road with him went to Village of Harmony (Nain). A large crowd of people trailed behind him.


When Creator Sets Free (Jesus) saw her, he felt pity for her and said, “Do not weep. The Great Spirit has seen your tears.”
