For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the eyes of the Great Spirit. Our Sacred Teachings tell us, “He is many steps ahead of the wise who think they can trick him.”


Not one thing in all creation is hidden from his sight. All things are stripped bare before the eyes of the one to whom we must give an answer for how we have walked on this earth.


We should not put our Honored Chief to the test, as some of our ancestors did, and were killed by poisonous snakes.


They kept an eye on him and sent spies who pretended to be good-hearted to trap him in his words, so they would have a reason to turn him over to the power of the governor of People of Iron (Romans).


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) knew what they were scheming, so he said to the man, “Come, stand here, where every-one can see you.” So the man did what he said.


In his spirit, Creator Sets Free (Jesus) knew what they were thinking and said to them, “Why are your hearts full of dark thoughts and questions?


He could see right through them and knew what they were up to! “Why are you putting me to the test? I can see behind your false faces!” he answered.


The Separated Ones (Pharisees) and Upright Ones (Sadducees) came again to Creator Sets Free (Jesus) to put him to the test and find something to accuse him with. “Show us a powerful sign from the spirit-world above,” they demanded, “to prove to us who you are.” Creator Sets Free (Jesus) was growing weary of their ongoing attacks, but as always he was able to answer them with great wisdom.


Tell us what is permitted, should our tribal members pay taxes to the Ruler of the People of Iron (Caesar)? Yes or no?”


“Show me one of their silver coins.” They found a silver coin and handed it to him. He took a good long look, holding it up to the sky to see it clearly. Then he turned the face of the coin toward them. “Whose image and words are carved into this coin?” he asked. “The Ruler of the People of Iron (Caesar),” they answered. He handed the coin back to them.


“You son of the evil trickster!” he spoke sharply to Wise One (Elymas). “You who speak with a forked tongue! You are the enemy of all that is good and right. When will you ever stop making Creator’s straight paths crooked?


No longer will we be like children who are tossed about by the waves and follow every voice they hear in the wind. We will no longer listen to the ones who behave like tricksters with their forked tongues.
