First Nations Version

In the days that followed, Creator Sets Free (Jesus) came each day to the sacred lodge to teach and tell his stories. The head holy men, the scroll keepers, and the spiritual leaders took counsel together to plan new ways to have him killed.

The head holy men and the scroll keepers heard about what Creator Sets Free (Jesus) had said and done. They began to counsel together about how they could kill him, for they feared his reputation among the many people who respected his teachings.


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) then turned to the ones who had come to take him and said, “Why do you come at me with clubs and long knives as if I were a thief? Did I not sit with you every day in the sacred lodge? Why did you not take me then?


Creator Sets Free (Jesus) said to him, “I have spoken openly to all, in the gathering houses and the sacred lodge. I said nothing in secret.


The tribal leaders moved toward him to take him by force, but he slipped through their hands and walked away. Creator Sets Free (Jesus) decided it was time to leave Village of Peace (Jerusalem) again.


The lodge soldiers were amazed by his words and could not bring themselves to arrest him.


“Drawn from the Water (Moses) gave you the law, but none of you keep it. Why do you want to kill me?”


It was now only two days before the traditional yearly Passover and Bread Without Yeast festival would be celebrated. The head holy men and the scroll keepers were scheming together about ways to have him captured and killed.


The spiritual leaders wanted to take him prisoner right then and there, for they knew the story was about them. But they were afraid of what the people might do, so they left him and went away.


When he arrived at the lodge, the head holy men were waiting for him. They and the ruling elders of the people came to him. “By what right do you do these things?” they challenged. “Who gave you this right?”


Did I not sit with you every day in the sacred lodge? Why did you not take me then? But now the words of the prophets have come true and found their full meaning.”


But they could not figure out what to do, for the people had great respect for him and held on to every word he said.


When the head holy men and the scroll keepers realized that this story was about them, they looked for a way to arrest him, but they could not, for they were afraid of what the people might do.
