“Take a good long look at him!” The crowd stared at him in stunned silence. But then the head holy men and the lodge guards began to shout, “Death! Death on the cross!” “Then take him and kill him yourselves,” Spear of the Great Waters (Pilate) said to them. “I find no guilt in him!”

Spear of the Great Waters (Pilate) said to them. “Use your own law to decide what to do.” “Our tribal law will not permit us to put him to death,” they answered.


Spear of the Great Waters (Pilate) stood before the crowd again and said, “I bring to you the one in whom I have found no guilt.” Creator Sets Free (Jesus) was brought forward, blood flowing down his bruised face.


Did not your ancestors hunt down, torture, and kill the prophets who foretold the coming of the Upright One? You have now become his betrayers and murderers!


Creator knew, before it happened, that the tribes would use the power of the People of Iron (Romans) to have him violently killed by nailing him to a tree-pole—the cross. But the Maker of Life let you have your way with him, because he had made a plan, long ago, to bring him back to life. Creator Sets Free (Jesus) was released from the painful grip of death, for even death itself could not hold him captive.


“Take him away! Take him away!” the crowd shouted with one voice. “Nail him to the cross!” “Would you have me nail your chief to the cross?” he asked them. This time the head holy men answered back, “We have no other chief than the Ruler of the People of Iron (Caesar).”


Spear of the Great Waters (Pilate) turned to the head holy men and said in front of all the people, “I see no reason to find this man guilty.”


Spear of the Great Waters (Pilate) could see that their minds would not be changed. He was worried that the crowd might turn violent, so he decided to give them what they wanted. He washed his hands in a vessel of water in front of all the people and said, “This man’s blood is not on my hands. It is on yours!”


“Then what would you have me do with Creator Sets Free (Jesus), who is called the Chosen One?” he asked them. With one voice they shouted, “Nail him to the cross!”


Stands on the Rock (Peter) followed from a safe distance until they came to the courtyard of the chief holy man. He then went inside through the gate, sat down next to the lodge guards, and waited to see what would happen.


The betrayer came into the garden, and with him came a band of lodge soldiers sent from the scroll keepers, head holy men, and Separated Ones (Pharisees), representing the elders of the Grand Council. The air was filled with the smell of burning torches as they entered the garden carrying clubs and long knives.


Spear of the Great Waters (Pilate) shook his head and said, “What is truth?”
