Since he was the keeper of the money pouch, they thought he was going to pay for the ceremonial meal or give something to the poor.


Why would you show no respect for the poor? Is it not the rich who drag you down and bring you before their own corrupt councils?


Let us say someone comes into your sacred gathering wearing fine clothes and costly jewelry, and some poor person comes in dressed in rags.


Make sure to turn away from all kinds of evil.


They asked only that we would not forget to help the poor, a desire that was already burning in my heart.


Nor those filled with greed, or drunks, or big-mouth troublemakers, or those who behave like tricksters—none of these will share in the blessings of Creator’s good road.


The ones who do it only for pay are not true shepherds, for they do not care for the sheep but only for themselves.

Another was Woman of His Goodwill (Joanna), the wife of Vision Seer (Chuza), the headman of the household of Chief Looks Brave (Herod). And then there was Water Flower (Susanna). These women and many others helped out with their own goods.


“This could have been traded for a year’s wages and given to the poor.”
