James 2:21First Nations VersionSo I ask you, was not Father of Many Nations (Abraham) shown to be in good standing when he put his son He Made Us Laugh (Isaac) on the sacred altar as a sacrifice? Long ago the Great Spirit promised Father of Many Nations (Abraham) a son even though he was too old to father a child. For many winters he kept trusting that the promise would come true. Finally, his promised son was born, the son whom the Great Spirit said his descendants would come from and through whom all nations would be blessed. But Creator told Father of Many Nations (Abraham) to take his son and offer him as a sacrifice. His trust in the Great Spirit was so strong that he believed even if he sacrificed his only son Creator would bring him back from death. So he began to do what he was told, but the Great Spirit sent a spirit-messenger to stop him just as he was about to sacrifice his son. See the chapter |
That is why the promise comes from trusting in the gift of Creator’s great kindness, so that all the descendants of Father of Many Nations (Abraham) can be sure to receive it. This promise is not only for the ones who are under our tribal law, but for all who walk the same path of trust and faith that Father of Many Nations (Abraham) walked. For he is the father of us all!
He said to them, “Fellow Tribal Members, my brothers and fathers, hear what I have to say! The Great Mystery, the one who shines like the sun, appeared to our ancestor Father of Many Nations (Abraham) while he was still living in Land Between Rivers (Mesopotamia), before he pitched his tipi at Mountain Where the Roads Cross (Haran).
Because he trusted the Giver of Breath, Father of Many Nations (Abraham), when he was tested by the Great Spirit, offered up He Made Us Laugh (Isaac) as a ceremonial sacrifice. For Creator had promised him, “It is through He Made Us Laugh (Isaac) that your descendants will be born.” But there he was, ready to offer up his only son!
