There is no honor in suffering for wrongs you have done. But if you suffer with patience for doing what is right, then Creator will look on you with great kindness.

For the gift of great kindness rests on the ones who, out of respect for the Great Spirit, patiently suffer even when they have done nothing wrong.


For if it is what the Great Spirit wants, it is better to suffer for doing good than for doing wrong.


But even if you should suffer for doing what is right, remember that Creator’s blessing rests on you. So do not fear what they can do to you or be troubled by their threats.


“Where is the honor in only showing love to the ones who do the same for you? Why should you be given respect for doing good to the ones who do you good, or for lending only to the ones who can repay you? Even tribal tax collectors and outcasts do these things.


If you welcome only friends, how are you different from others? Even outsiders from other nations do these things.


Even now we are hungry and thirsty. We are dressed in rags. We are often badly beaten and wander about with no regular place to lay our heads.


Some began to spit on him. They covered his face and struck him, saying, “Prophesy!” Then the lodge guards took him and struck him with the backs of their hands.


Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists, and others slapped him with the back of their hands.


But now I have received more than I need. My blanket has been filled with good things. The gifts that Walks with Beauty (Epaphroditus) brought from you are like a sweet-smelling smoke offering —a sacrificial gift, pleasing to the Great Spirit.


This will prove you are his children—the ones who seek for ways to make his heart glad.


Yes, to win people over is a good thing, but only when it is done for the right reasons, and not just when I am there with you.
