Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you.

by your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth—

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

“Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because it towered high and set its top among the clouds, and its heart was proud of its height,

“Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God: “Because your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of the gods, in the heart of the seas,’ yet you are but a man, and no god, though you make your heart like the heart of a god—

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

I will make many peoples appalled at you, and the hair of their kings shall bristle with horror because of you, when I brandish my sword before them. They shall tremble every moment, every one for his own life, on the day of your downfall.

therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners upon you, the most ruthless of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and defile your splendor.

Thus will I put an end to lewdness in the land, that all women may take warning and not commit lewdness as you have done.

And they shall burn your houses and execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women. I will make you stop playing the whore, and you shall also give payment no more.

The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord, so what wisdom is in them?

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.

The Lord lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.

Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin.

But the vine was plucked up in fury, cast down to the ground; the east wind dried up its fruit; they were stripped off and withered. As for its strong stem, fire consumed it.

Then all the princes of the sea will step down from their thrones and remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling; they will sit on the ground and tremble every moment and be appalled at you.

and say to Tyre, who dwells at the entrances to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, thus says the Lord God: “O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’

Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders made perfect your beauty.

You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.

And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down, lay low, and cast to the ground, to the dust.

For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust.

And when the multitude is taken away, his heart shall be exalted, and he shall cast down tens of thousands, but he shall not prevail.
