And the king of Assyria listened to him. The king of Assyria marched up against Damascus and took it, carrying its people captive to Kir, and he killed Rezin.

Therefore the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.

Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?

An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.

Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands,

And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and they conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.

“The bricks have fallen, but we will build with dressed stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.”
