What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known lust unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."

But I say to you, that whoever looks at a woman in order to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

He will come and destroy those farmers and give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it they said, "May it never be!"

I have desired the silver or gold or clothes of no one.

For, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not kill," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, in this word it is summed up, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Therefore by works of the law no flesh shall be justified in His sight, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Surely God, the One inflicting wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I speak as a man.)

What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?

because the law produces wrath; for where there is no law neither is there transgression.

But the law came in alongside, so that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace superabounded,

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

For sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and by it, killed me.

Then has that which is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through that which is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions aroused through the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.

But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of lust. For apart from the law sin was dead.

Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Therefore put to death your members on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God,

For the law made nothing perfect; but there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
