So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, but others say Elijah, and yet others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist; he has been raised from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him."
He said to them, "But who do you pronounce Me to be?"
And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
In those days John the Baptist arrived preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
Others said, "He is Elijah." But others said, "He is a prophet, like one of the prophets."
So they answered, "John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; but others, one of the prophets."
and by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the ancient prophets had arisen.
And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."
And there was much murmuring among the crowds concerning Him. Some on the one hand were saying, "He is a good Man"; while others were saying, "No, on the contrary, He deceives the people."
They said to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."
