A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell alongside the road; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.

He answered and said to them: "He that sows the good seed is the Son of Man.

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt becomes tasteless, with what shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfoot by men.

And these are the seeds beside the road where the word is sown, and whenever they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word which was sown in their hearts.

And when a large crowd had gathered, and the people came to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable:

And other seed fell on rock; and when it grew up, it withered away because it had no moisture.

On account of this we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
