But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more than a prophet.

Though desiring to kill him, he feared the crowd, because they counted him as a prophet.

"But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet."

And seeking to seize Him, they feared the crowds, since they considered Him as a prophet.

But they said, "Not during the feast, lest a disturbance take place among the people."

And they sought to lay hold of Him, but they feared the crowd, for they knew that He has spoken the parable against them. And leaving Him, they went away.

"And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

And they debated among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

So they answered that they did not know where it was from.

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God for themselves, because they had not been baptized by him.

And many came to Him and said, "John indeed performed no sign, but everything which John said about this Man was true."

Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.
