So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the places of honor, saying to them:
Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds, and without a parable He did not speak to them,
They love the first couch in the suppers, and the best seats in the synagogues,
Woe to you Pharisees! Because you love the first seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk about in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, and the first seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor at dinners,
doing nothing according to selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility, regarding one another as being better than yourselves.
I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves the preeminence over them, does not receive us.
