And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."
And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah, the one who is about to come.
So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, but others say Elijah, and yet others say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
And the crowds were saying, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."
And he himself will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"
And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."
Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, "Truly this is the Prophet."
