Tyre is built like a fort. The people there have collected so much silver that it is like dust, and gold is as common as clay.

They went to the fort of Tyre. They went to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites. Then they went south to Beersheba in the southern part of Judah.

All of Solomon’s cups and glasses were made of gold. And all of the dishes [138] in the building called the “Forest of Lebanon” were made from pure gold. Nothing in the palace was made from silver. {There was so much gold that} in Solomon’s time people did not think silver was important!

The king made Israel very rich. In the city of Jerusalem, silver was as common as rocks and cedar wood was as common as the many, many fig trees growing on the hills.

Think of your gold as nothing but dirt,\par Think of your best gold {\cf2\super [37]} \par as pebbles from a stream.\par

An evil person might get so much silver\par that it is like dirt to him.\par He might have so many clothes\par that they are like piles of clay.\par

I wish I were buried with those rulers\par that filled their graves {\cf2\super [10]} \par with gold and silver!\par

The Lord has stretched his arm over the sea.\par The Lord is gathering kingdoms\par to fight against Tyre.\par The Lord commands Canaan {\cf2\super [224]} \par to destroy \{Tyre\},\par her place of safety.\par

The city of Tyre has produced many leaders.\par Businessmen from that city are like princes.\par The people that buy and sell things\par are honored everywhere.\par So who made plans against Tyre?\par

Nebuchadnezzar’s men will take away your riches. They will take the things you wanted to sell. They will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses. They will throw your stones and wood \{houses\} into the sea like garbage.

And all your wealth will spill into the sea.\par Your wealth—\par the things you buy and sell—\par will spill into the sea.\par Your whole crew—\par sailors, pilots, and the men who\par put caulking {\cf2\super [230]} between the boards\par on your ship—\par will spill into the sea.\par The merchants {\cf2\super [231]} and soldiers in your city,\par will all sink into the sea.\par That will happen on the day\par that you are destroyed!\par

Your businessmen sailed across the seas.\par You satisfied many people\par with your great wealth\par and the things you sold.\par You made the kings of the earth rich!\par

But now you are broken by the seas,\par and by the deep waters.\par All the things you sell\par and all your people have fallen!\par

The word of the Lord came to me. He said,

The Lord says these things: “I will definitely punish \{the people of\} Tyre {\cf2\super [18]} for the many crimes they did. {\cf2\super [19]} Why? Because they took an entire nation and sent them as slaves to Edom. {\cf2\super [20]} They did not remember the agreement they had made with their brothers (Israel).

Then the border went back south to Ramah. The border continued to the strong city of Tyre. Then the border turned and went to Hosah. The border ended at the sea, near Aczib,
