Zechariah 1:1

Easy To Read Version

Zechariah son of Berekiah received a message from the Lord. This was in the eighth month of the second year that Darius was king {\cf2\super [1]} in Persia. (Zechariah was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Iddo the prophet.) This is that message:

At that time, the prophets Haggai {\cf2\super [25]} and Zechariah son of Iddo {\cf2\super [26]} began to prophesy {\cf2\super [27]} in the name of God. They encouraged the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem.

The leader of Iddo’s family was Zechariah.\par The leader of Ginnethon’s family was Meshullam.\par

On the first day of the sixth month of Darius’ second year as king \{of Persia\}, Haggai received a message from the Lord. This message was for Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak. Zerubbabel was the governor of Judah and Joshua was the high priest. This is the message:

They began this work on the 24th day of the sixth month of Darius’ second year as the king \{of Persia\}.

Again Haggai received a message from the Lord. Haggai spoke this message:

On the 24th day of the ninth month of Darius’ second year as king \{of Persia\}, this message from the Lord came to Haggai the prophet:

Another message from the Lord came to Haggai on the 24th day of the month. This is the message:

On the 24th day of the eleventh month (Shebat) of the second year that Darius was king {\cf2\super [2]} of Persia, Zechariah received another message from the Lord. (This was Zechariah son of Berekiah, son of Iddo, the prophet.) This is the message:

Then I received another message from the Lord. He said,

Zechariah received a message from the Lord in the fourth year that Darius was the king {\cf2\super [18]} of Persia. This was on the fourth day of the ninth month (Kislev).

So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people that have been killed on earth. You will be guilty for the killing of that good man Abel. {\cf2\super [357]} And you will be guilty for the killing of Zechariah {\cf2\super [358]} son of Berachiah. He was killed between the temple {\cf2\super [359]} and the altar. {\cf2\super [360]} You will be guilty for the killing of all the good people that lived between the time of Abel and the time of Zechariah.

You will be punished for the killing of Abel. {\cf2\super [217]} And you will be punished for the killing of Zechariah. {\cf2\super [218]} Zechariah was killed between the altar and the temple. {\cf2\super [219]} Yes, I tell you that you people that live now will be punished for them all.
