The angel raised his arm over Jerusalem to destroy it. But the Lord felt very sorry about the bad things that had happened. The Lord said to the angel that destroyed the people, “That’s enough! Put down your arm.”The Lord’s angel was by the threshing floor [161] of Araunah [162] the Jebusite.

The Lord said to Satan, “All right. Do anything you want to the things Job has. But don’t hurt his body.”

When the evil person has eaten all he wants,\par God will throw his burning anger\par against that person.\par God will rain punishment\par down on the evil person.\par

He will make hot coals and burning\par sulphur fall like rain on those bad people.\par Those bad people will get nothing but\par a hot, burning wind. {\cf2\super [63]} \par

But the blood on your houses will be a special sign. When I see the blood, I will pass over [66] your house. I will cause bad things to happen to the people of Egypt. But none of those bad diseases will hurt you.

In your great majesty you destroyed the men who stood against you. Your anger destroyed them, like fire burning straw.

So the Lord became angry at them. The Lord caused powerful wars against them. It was like the people of Israel had fire all around them. But they did not know what was happening. It was like they were burning. But they did not try to understand the things that were happening.

The Lord used all of his anger.\par He poured out all his anger.\par He made a fire in Zion. {\cf2\super [31]} \par That fire burned down Zion\par to its foundations.\par

The Lord said, “So just wait! Wait for me to stand and judge you. I have the right to bring people from many nations and use them to punish you. I will use those people to show my anger against you. I will use them to show how upset I am—and the whole country will be destroyed!
