Numbers 17:10

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Put Aaron’s walking stick {back into the Tent} in front of the Agreement. [228] This will be a warning for these people who are always turning against me. This will stop their complaining against me, so that I won’t destroy them.”

Moses said, “The Lord said: ‘Save a basket [110] of this food for your descendants. [111] Then they can see the food that I gave to you in the desert when I took you out of Egypt.’”

Heaven and Earth, listen to the Lord! The Lord says,

Israel, you have sinned since the time of Gibeah. {\cf2\super [107]} (And those people have continued sinning there.) War truly will catch those evil people at Gibeah.

Moses and Aaron bowed low to the ground in front of all the people gathered there.

“Move away from these men! I want to destroy them now!”

He did this the way the Lord commanded him through Moses. This was a sign to help the people of Israel remember that only a person from the family of Aaron should burn incense [215] before the Lord. Any other person who burns incense before the Lord will die like Korah and his followers.

So Moses did what the Lord commanded him.

Put these walking sticks in the Meeting Tent [225] in front of the Box of the Agreement. [226] This is the place where I meet with you.

So Moses brought out all the sticks from the Lord’s place. Moses showed the walking sticks to the people of Israel. They all looked at the sticks, and each man took his own stick back.

The walking stick was {in the Holy Tent,} in front of the Lord. Moses took the walking stick like the Lord said.

“Be careful! Don’t let these Kohathite men be destroyed.

And don’t complain like some of those people did. Those people were killed by the angel that destroys.

Don’t let any person fool you by telling you things that are not true. Those evil things make God angry with the people who don’t obey.

All the time that I have known you, you have refused to obey the Lord.

“Don’t forget that you made the Lord your God angry in the desert! You have refused to obey the Lord from the day you left the land of Egypt to the day you came to this place.

In the Most Holy Place was a golden altar {\cf2\super [94]} for burning incense. {\cf2\super [95]} And also there was the Holy Box of the Agreement. {\cf2\super [96]} The box was covered with gold. Inside this box was a golden jar of manna {\cf2\super [97]} and Aaron’s rod (stick)—the rod that once grew leaves. Also in the box were the flat rocks \{with the Ten Commandments\} of the old agreement \{written on them\}.

Eli’s sons were bad men. They did not care about the Lord.

There were some bad men who were trouble-makers in the group that went with David. Those trouble-makers said, “These 200 men didn’t go with us. So we won’t give them any of the things we took. These men get only their own wives and children.”
