And I will live among the children of Israel in this temple that you are building. I will never leave the people of Israel.”

I pray that the Lord our God will be with us, just like he was with our ancestors. [117] I pray that the Lord will never leave us.

Zedekiah turned against King Nebuchadnezzar. In the past Nebuchadnezzar forced Zedekiah to make a promise to be faithful to Nebuchadnezzar. Zedekiah used God’s name and promised to be faithful to Nebuchadnezzar. But Zedekiah was very stubborn and refused to change his life and come back and obey the Lord God of Israel.

Yes, we were slaves, but you would not let us be slaves forever. You were kind to us. You made the kings of Persia be kind to us. Your temple was ruined. But you gave us new life so we can build your temple again and fix it like new. God, you helped us build a wall to protect Judah and Jerusalem.

But you are so kind!\par You didn’t destroy them completely.\par You didn’t leave them.\par You are such a kind and merciful God!\par

But our ancestors quickly forgot about the things God did.\par They did not listen to God’s advice.\par

Lord, our ancestors in Egypt learned nothing\par from the miracles you did.\par There by the Red Sea,\par our ancestors turned against you.\par

Lord, forgive your people.\par Then there will be people to worship you.\par

They didn’t keep their Agreement with God.\par They refused to obey his teachings.\par

Those men from Ephraim\par forgot the great things God did.\par They forgot the amazing things\par he showed them.\par

But God was merciful.\par He forgave them for their sins.\par And he did not destroy them.\par Many times God controlled his anger.\par He didn‘t let himself become too angry.\par

Master, you are a kind and merciful God.\par You are patient, loyal, and full of love.\par

Master, you are good and merciful.\par Your people call to you for help.\par You really love those people.\par

The Lord said to Moses, “I have seen these people. I know that they are very stubborn people. They will always turn against me.

“But you refused to listen to me. I tried to help. I offered my hand—but you refused to accept my help.

But my people have forgotten about me.\par They make offerings to worthless idols.\par My people stumble in the things they do.\par They stumble about in the old paths\par of their ancestors. {\cf2\super [153]} \par My people would rather walk\par along back roads and poor highways,\par than to follow me on the good roads.\par

“This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel says: ‘I said I would bring many disasters to Jerusalem and the villages around it. I will soon make those things happen. Why? Because the people are very stubborn—they refused to listen and obey me.’”

But your ancestors did not listen to me. They did not pay attention to me. They were very stubborn and did evil worse than their fathers.

The people \{of Jerusalem\} rebelled against my commands. They were worse than any of the other nations! They broke more of my laws than any of the people in the countries around them. They refused to listen to my commands! They did not obey my laws!”

“But Lord, you are kind. You forgive people for the bad things they do. And we really turned against you.

Tear your hearts, not your clothes.” {\cf2\super [13]} \par Come back to the Lord your God.\par He is kind and merciful.\par He does not become angry quickly.\par He has great love.\par Maybe he will change his mind\par about the bad \{punishment he planned\}.\par

They truly sinned. {But if they come to me for help,} I will not turn away from them. I will listen to them, even if they are in the land of their enemies. I will not completely destroy them. I will not break my Agreement with them. Why? Because I am the Lord their God!

The Lord is patient.\par But he is also very powerful!\par And the Lord will punish guilty people.\par He will not let them go free.\par The Lord \{is coming to punish bad people\}.\par He will use whirlwinds and storms\par to show his power.\par \{A man walks\} on the dust \{on the ground\}.\par But the Lord walks on the clouds!\par

The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, “How long will these people continue to turn against me? They show that they don’t trust me. They show that they don’t believe in my power. They refuse to believe me, even after I have shown them many powerful signs. I have done many great things among them.

But Moses said, “Why are you not obeying the Lord’s command? You will not be successful!

Why should we follow you? You did not bring us into the new land filled with many good things. [203] You did not give us the land God promised. You did not give us the fields or the vineyards. Will you make these men your slaves? No! We will not come.”

“But our ancestors did not want to obey Moses. They rejected him. They wanted to go back to Egypt again.

God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to the person that I want to show mercy to. I will show pity to the person that I want to show pity to.” {\cf2\super [86]}

Be careful and don’t refuse to listen when God speaks. Those people (Israelites) refused to listen to him when he warned them on earth. And those people did not escape. Now God is speaking from heaven. So now it will be worse for those people who refuse to listen to him.

“But the Lord won’t leave his people. No, the Lord was pleased to make you his own people. So, for his own good name, he won’t leave you.
