Nehemiah 11:1

Easy To Read Version

Now the leaders of the people of Israel moved into the city of Jerusalem. The other people of Israel had to decide who else would move into the city. So they threw lots, {\cf2\super [68]} and one out of every ten people had to live in Jerusalem, the holy city. The other nine people could live in their own home towns.

Each family was given a gate to guard. Lots {\cf2\super [287]} where thrown to choose a gate for a family. Young and old were treated the same.

All these men were leaders of their families. They were listed in their family histories as leaders. They lived in Jerusalem.

The names of all the people of Israel were listed in their family histories. Those family histories were put in the book The History of the Kings of Israel.

The first people to come back and live in their own lands and towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites, and servants that work in the temple. {\cf2\super [85]}

These are the people from the family groups of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh that lived in Jerusalem:

“We—the priests, the Levites, and the people—have thrown lots. {\cf2\super [65]} Why? To decide when each of our families is to bring a gift of wood to the temple of our God at certain times each year. The wood is to burn on the altar of the Lord our God. We must do that just as it is written in the Law.\par

So, there were 284 Levites that moved into Jerusalem, the holy city.

At that time I also said this to the people: “Every builder and his helper must stay inside Jerusalem at night. Then they can be guards at night and workers during the day.”

The kings from David’s family\par put their thrones in that place.\par They set up their thrones there\par to judge the people.\par

Pray for peace in Jerusalem.\par “I hope the people who love you\par will find peace there.\par I hope there will be peace\par inside your walls.\par I hope there will be safety\par in your great buildings.”\par

The person who respects the Lord is learning to be wise. A person must be humble before he can truly respect the Lord.

Yes, they are citizens of the Holy City {\cf2\super [412]} .\par They depend on the God of Israel.\par The Lord All-Powerful is his Name.\par

Wake up! Wake up Zion! {\cf2\super [420]} \par Dress yourself!\par Put on your strength!\par Holy Jerusalem, stand up!\par People that have not agreed\par to follow God {\cf2\super [421]} \par will not enter you again.\par Those people are not pure and clean.\par

Those people came out of the graves. After Jesus was raised from death, those people went into the holy city (Jerusalem), and many people saw them.

Then the devil led Jesus to the holy city (Jerusalem). The devil put Jesus on a very high place on the temple. {\cf2\super [49]}

Then the apostles used lots {\cf2\super [16]} to choose one of the two men. The lots showed that Matthias was the one that the Lord wanted. So he became an apostle with the other eleven.

Joshua threw lots [66] for them in front of the Lord at Shiloh. In this way, Joshua divided the land and gave each family group its part of the land.
