The Lord decided to crush him. The Lord decided that he must suffer, so the Servant gave himself to be the one to die. But he will live a new life for a long, long time. He will see his people. He will complete the things the Lord wants him to do.
For this reason, I will reward him among my people. He will have a share of all things with the people that are strong. \{I will do this for him\} because he gave his life for the people and died.
People made fun of him, and his friends left him. He was a man that had much pain. He knew sickness very well. People did not even give him the honor of looking at him. We did not even notice him.
“Now I am very troubled. What should I say? Should I say, ‘Father save me from this time \{of suffering\}’? No, I came to this time so that I could suffer.
The law put a curse on us. But Christ took away that curse. He changed places with us. Christ put himself under that curse. The Scriptures say, “When a person’s body is put (hung) on a tree, {\cf2\super [32]} that person is under a curse.” {\cf2\super [33]}
Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his (Christ’s) wounds you were healed.
Christ himself died for you. And that one death paid for your sins. He was not guilty, but he died for people who are guilty. He did this to bring you all to God. His body was killed, but he was made alive in the spirit.
