Maybe the people of Edom will say, “We were destroyed. But we will go back and build our cities again.”

If God tears down anything,\par people can’t build it again.\par If God puts a person in prison,\par people can’t free the person.\par

But if God decides not to help them,\par then no person can judge God guilty.\par If God hides himself from people,\par then no person can find him.\par God is the ruler over people and nations.\par

God is very wise\par and his power is very great.\par No person can fight God and not be hurt.\par

If it is not the Lord that builds a house,\par the builder is wasting his time.\par If it is not the Lord that watches over a city,\par the guards are wasting their time.\par

I promise, Jerusalem will always be\par my greatest joy!\par

The Lord can make everyone’s advice useless.\par He can ruin all their plans.\par

There is no person who is wise enough to make a plan that can succeed if the Lord is against it.

You will have to bow down like a prisoner. You will fall down like a dead person. But that will not help you! God will still be angry. God will still be ready to punish you.

But Ephraim and Judah will attack the Philistines. {\cf2\super [136]} These two nations will be like birds flying down to catch a small animal. Together, they will take the riches from the people in the east. Ephraim and Judah will control Edom, Moab, {\cf2\super [137]} and the people in Ammon. {\cf2\super [138]}

The fires will burn day and night—no person will stop the fire. The smoke will rise from Edom forever. That land will be destroyed forever and ever. No people will ever travel through that land again.

The Lord says, “This will happen when my sword in the sky is covered with blood.”

Israel, there is hope for you.”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “Your children will come back\par to their own land.\par

So listen to what the Lord has planned\par to do to the people of Edom.\par Listen to what the Lord has decided\par to do to the people in Teman. {\cf2\super [402]} \par The enemy will drag away the young kids\par of Edom’s flock (people).\par Edom’s pastures will be empty because of\par what they did.\par

You people living in Dedan, run away!\par Hide! Why? Because I will punish Esau {\cf2\super [399]} for the bad things he did.\par

Those soldiers will eat all the crops\par that you gathered.\par They will eat all of your food.\par They will eat (destroy) your sons\par and daughters.\par They will eat your flocks and your herds.\par They will eat your grapes and your figs.\par They will destroy your strong cities\par with their swords.\par They will destroy the strong cities\par that you trust in!\par

Nobody can say something\par and have it happen,\par unless the Lord orders it to happen.\par

You will die by the sword. I will punish you here in Israel, so you will know that \{I am the One punishing you\}. I am the Lord.

So the Lord my Master says: “I will punish Edom. I will destroy the people and the animals in Edom. I will destroy the whole country of Edom, all the way from Teman to Dedan. The Edomites will be killed in battle.

I will use my people Israel and get even against Edom. In this way, the people of Israel will show my anger against Edom. Then those people of Edom will know that I punished them.” The Lord my Master said these things.

I will make you a bare rock. You will be a place by the sea for spreading fishing nets! You won’t be built again. Why? Because I, the Lord, have spoken!” The Lord my Master said those things.

I will destroy your cities.\par And you will become empty.\par Then you will know that I am the Lord.\par

I will make you empty forever. No one will live in your cities. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

The Lord says these things: “I will definitely punish \{the people of\} Edom {\cf2\super [21]} for the many crimes they did. {\cf2\super [22]} Why? Because Edom chased his brother (Israel) with the sword. Edom showed no mercy. Edom’s anger continued forever—he kept tearing and tearing \{at Israel like a wild animal\}.

I will destroy the winter house with the summer house. The houses of ivory will be destroyed. Many houses will be destroyed.” The Lord said those things.

You take unfair taxes {\cf2\super [69]} from poor people.\par You take loads of wheat from them.\par You build fancy houses with cut stone.\par But you will not live in those houses.\par You plant beautiful fields of grapes.\par But you will not drink the wine from them.\par

Look, the Lord God will give the command,\par and the large houses\par will be broken to pieces,\par and the small houses\par will be broken to small pieces.\par

Go look at Calneh. {\cf2\super [76]} \par From there, go to the large city Hamath. {\cf2\super [77]} \par Go to the Philistine city Gath.\par Are you better than these kingdoms? No.\par Their countries are larger than yours.\par

And I did not accept {\cf2\super [2]} Esau. I destroyed Esau’s hill-country. {\cf2\super [3]} Esau’s country was destroyed, and now only wild dogs {\cf2\super [4]} live there.”

“If a person is not with me, then he is against me. The person that does not work with me is working against me.
