You will be punished for the killing of Abel. {\cf2\super [217]} And you will be punished for the killing of Zechariah. {\cf2\super [218]} Zechariah was killed between the altar and the temple. {\cf2\super [219]} Yes, I tell you that you people that live now will be punished for them all.

After that, Eve gave birth to another baby. This baby was Cain’s brother, Abel. Abel became a shepherd. Cain became a farmer.

So you must tell them these things: This is the nation that did not obey the Lord its God. These people did not listen to God’s teachings. These people don’t know the true teachings.

Zechariah son of Berekiah received a message from the Lord. This was in the eighth month of the second year that Darius was king {\cf2\super [1]} in Persia. (Zechariah was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Iddo the prophet.) This is that message:

So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people that have been killed on earth. You will be guilty for the killing of that good man Abel. {\cf2\super [357]} And you will be guilty for the killing of Zechariah {\cf2\super [358]} son of Berachiah. He was killed between the temple {\cf2\super [359]} and the altar. {\cf2\super [360]} You will be guilty for the killing of all the good people that lived between the time of Abel and the time of Zechariah.

Cain and Abel both offered sacrifices {\cf2\super [143]} to God. But Abel offered a better sacrifice to God because Abel had faith. God said he was pleased with the things Abel offered. And so God called Abel a good man because Abel had faith. Abel died, but through his faith he is still speaking.

You have come to Jesus—the One that brought the new agreement {\cf2\super [168]} from God to his people. You have come to the sprinkled blood {\cf2\super [169]} that tells us about better things than the blood of Abel. {\cf2\super [170]}

Don’t be like Cain. {\cf2\super [10]} Cain belonged to the Evil One (the devil). Cain killed his brother \{Abel {\cf2\super [11]} \}. But why did Cain kill his brother? Because the things Cain did were evil, and the things his brother \{Abel\} did were good.
