John 8:9

The people that heard Jesus began to leave one by one. The older men left first, and then the others. Jesus was left there alone with the woman. She was standing before him.

And the woman said to Elijah, “You are a man of God. [194] Can you help me? Or did you come here only to cause me to remember all of my sins? Did you come here only to cause my son to die?”

You know the many wrong things you did against my father David. Now the Lord will punish you for those wrong things.

Heaven will prove that the evil person is guilty.\par The earth will be a witness against him.\par

Those evil people are trying to kill me.\par Lord, make those people ashamed and disappointed.\par Those people want to hurt me.\par Let them run away in shame!\par

You did these bad things,\par and I said nothing.\par So you thought\par that I was just like you.\par Well, I won’t be quiet any longer!\par I will make it very clear to you,\par and I will criticize you to your face!\par

Defeat my enemies!Destroy them completely!They are trying to hurt me.I hope they feel the shame and disgrace.

And you know that many times you too have said bad things about other people.

When Jesus said this, all the men that were criticizing him felt ashamed of themselves. And all the people were happy for the wonderful things Jesus was doing.

Jesus looked up again and asked her, “Woman, all of those people are gone. None of them judged you guilty?”

Later, Jesus talked to the people again. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. The person that follows me will never live in darkness. That person will have the light that gives life.”

Early in the morning Jesus went back to the temple {\cf2\super [128]} area. All the people came to Jesus. Jesus sat and taught the people.

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees {\cf2\super [129]} brought a woman there. The woman had been caught doing the sin of adultery. {\cf2\super [130]} These Jews forced the woman to stand before the people.

Then Jesus knelt down again and wrote on the ground.

They show that in their hearts they know what is right and wrong, the same as the law commands. And those people also show this by the way they feel about right and wrong. Sometimes their thoughts tell them that they did wrong, and this makes them guilty. And sometimes their thoughts tell them that they did right, and this makes them not guilty.)

You say that people must not do the sin of adultery. {\cf2\super [16]} But you yourselves are guilty of that sin. You hate idols. {\cf2\super [17]} But you steal from temples. {\cf2\super [18]}
