Then Satan went away from the Lord. Satan gave Job painful sores. The painful sores were all over Job’s body from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head.

All my bones ache at night.\par Pain never stops chewing on me.\par

My life is passing away like smoke.\par My life is like a fire slowly burning out.\par

My strength is gone—\par I am like dry, dying grass.\par I even forget to eat my food.\par

Even when I am like a dried wineskin\par on the trash pile,\par I will not forget your laws.\par

The Lord sent fire from above.\par That fire went down into my bones.\par He stretched out a net for my feet.\par He turned me all the way around.\par He made me into a wasteland.\par I am sick all day.\par

He wore out my flesh and skin.\par He broke my bones.\par

But now their faces are blacker than soot.\par No one even recognizes them in the streets.\par Their skin is wrinkled over their bones.\par Their skin is like wood.\par

Our skin is hot like an oven.\par We have a high fever\par because of our hunger.\par

My whole body shook\par when I heard the story.\par I whistled out loud!\par I felt weak deep down in my bones.\par I just stood there shaking.\par So I will wait patiently\par for the day of destruction when they come to attack the people.\par
