That night, the angel of the Lord went out and killed 185,000 people in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up in the morning, they saw all the dead bodies.

Every noise scares him.\par His enemy will attack him\par when he thinks he is safe.\par

Terror is waiting for him all around.\par Fears will follow every step he takes.\par

When the evil person has eaten all he wants,\par God will throw his burning anger\par against that person.\par God will rain punishment\par down on the evil person.\par

Like a dream, he will fly away\par and no one will ever find him.\par He will be forced away and forgotten\par like a bad dream. {\cf2\super [33]} \par

Does God blow the evil people away,\par like the wind blows straw,\par like strong winds blow the grain husks?\par

Those evil people were destroyed\par before it was their time to die.\par They were washed away by the flood.\par

“But the evil people are taken away\par like things carried away in a flood.\par The land they own is cursed, {\cf2\super [43]} \par so they won’t gather grapes\par from their fields.\par

People can suddenly die,\par in the middle of the night.\par People become sick and pass away.\par Even powerful people die\par for no apparent reason.\par

\{My enemies were trying to kill me!\}\par The ropes of death were all around me.\par I was caught in a flood carrying me to that place of death. {\cf2\super [100]} \par

I hear the crashing of the water\par as water from deep in the earth\par spills over the waterfall.\par Lord, your waves are crashing\par all around me and washing over me! {\cf2\super [262]} \par

God, teach those people\par so they may learn\par that they are really weak.\par Then they will want to worship\par your name!\par

You sweep us away.\par Our life is like a dream,\par and in the morning,\par we are gone.\par We are like grass.\par

At midnight, the Lord killed all the firstborn sons in Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh (who ruled Egypt) to the firstborn son of the prisoner sitting in jail. Also all the firstborn animals died.

That very same night, Belshazzar, king of the Babylonian people, was killed.

“You threw me into the sea.\par Your powerful waves splashed over me.\par I went down, down into the deep sea.\par The water was all around me.\par
