Hanani and the men with him said, “Nehemiah, those Jews that escaped captivity and are in the land of Judah are in much trouble. Those people are having many problems and are full of shame. Why? Because the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

Even if I have sinned,\par it is my problem.\par It does not hurt you.\par

I hope that all my enemies will be ashamed and embarrassed.\par Those people were happy when bad things happened to me.\par They thought they were better than me!\par So let those people be covered with shame and humiliation.\par

If I say anything,\par then my enemies will laugh at me.\par They will see I am sick\par and say that I am being punished\par for doing wrong.\par

Lord, don’t let my enemy hurt me.\par Then I will know\par that you didn’t send them to hurt me.\par

If it were an enemy insulting me,\par I could bear it.\par If it were my enemies attacking me,\par I could hide.\par

But it is you, my companion,\par my colleague, my friend.\par \{You are giving me troubles.\}\par

Those things will happen to the people of Moab and Ammon because they were so proud and because they were cruel to the people of the Lord All-Powerful and they humiliated them.

The Lord will save the people of Judah first, so the people in Jerusalem will not be able to brag too much. David’s family and the other people living in Jerusalem will not be able to brag that they are better than the other people in Judah.

“Look what the Lord (God) has done for me! He decided to help me \{have a baby\}. Now people will stop thinking there is something wrong with me.”

Jesus’ followers asked him, “Teacher, this man was born blind. But whose sin made him be born blind? His own sin, or his parents’ sin?”

The Jewish leaders answered, “You were born full of sin! Are you trying to teach us?” And the Jewish leaders forced the man to leave.

Peninnah always upset Hannah and made her feel bad. Peninnah did this because Hannah was not able to have children.
