A person told David, “Ahithophel is one of the people who made plans with Absalom.” Then David prayed, “Lord, I ask you to make Ahithophel’s advice useless.”

Absalom and all the Israelites said, “The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than Ahithophel’s advice.” {They said this} because it was the Lord’s plan. The Lord had planned to make Ahithophel’s good advice useless. That is how the Lord would punish Absalom.

The king of Aram was very upset about this. The king of Aram called his army officers and said to them, “Tell me who is {spying} for the king of Israel.”

I don’t need to prove to you that you\par are wrong. Why?\par The things you say with your own mouth\par show that you are wrong.\par Your own lips speak against you.\par

While the evil person has plenty,\par he will become pressed down with trouble.\par His problems will come down on him!\par

“Job, God wants to help you.\par God wants to get you out of trouble.\par God wants to make life easy for you.\par God wants to put plenty of food\par on your table.\par

Make my legs and ankles strong,\par so I can walk fast without stumbling.\par

The Lord can make everyone’s advice useless.\par He can ruin all their plans.\par

If a good person is honest, then his life will be easy. But an evil person is destroyed by the bad things he does.

Evil people are defeated by their own sin. But a good person can sing and be happy.

Follow this path, and your feet won’t be caught \{in any trap\}. You can run and not stumble. \{You will be safe in the things you try to do.\}

It was carried away as a gift to the great king of Assyria. He will keep Ephraim’s shameful \{idol\}. Israel will be ashamed of its idol. {\cf2\super [102]}

Why? Because the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. It is like the Scriptures {\cf2\super [21]} say, “He (God) catches the wise (smart) people when they use their sneaky ways.” {\cf2\super [22]}
