Jeremiah 6:19Easy To Read VersionHear this, people of the earth.\par I am going to bring disaster\par to the people of Judah.\par Why? Because of all the bad things\par that those people planned.\par And because they ignored my messages.\par Those people refused to obey my law.”\par See the chapter |
\{Bad things will happen to those people\}. Their descendants {\cf2\super [55]} will be completely destroyed—like straw and leaves are burned by fire. Their descendants will be destroyed like a root \{that dies and\} becomes dust. Their descendants will be destroyed like a fire destroys a flower—the ashes blow away in the wind.
Say to those people with you, ‘King of Judah and people of Jerusalem, listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord All-Powerful, the God of the people of Israel, says: I will soon make a terrible thing happen to this place! Every person that hears about it will be amazed and full of fear.
I will make all those things happen because those people of Jerusalem have not listened to my message.” This message is from the Lord. “I sent my message to them again and again. I used my servants, the prophets, to give my messages to those people. But the people didn’t listen.” This message is from the Lord.
Become the Lord’s people.\par Change your hearts! {\cf2\super [20]} \par Men of Judah and people of Jerusalem,\par if you don’t change,\par then I will become very angry.\par My anger will spread fast like a fire,\par and my anger will burn you up.\par And no person will be able to put out that fire.\par Why will this happen?\par Because of the evil things you have done.”\par
I will break Elam to pieces\par while their enemies are watching.\par I will break Elam in front of those people\par that want to kill them.\par I will bring terrible troubles to them.\par I will show them how angry I am.”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “I will send a sword to chase Elam.\par The sword will chase them\par until I have killed them all.\par
None of the people of Israel obeyed your teachings. They all have turned away. They did not obey you. There are curses {\cf2\super [101]} and promises written in the Law of Moses. (Moses was God’s servant.) Those curses and promises tell about the punishment for not obeying the law—and all those things have happened to us. Those things happened to us because we sinned against the Lord.
The Lord says this: “I will definitely punish Judah for the many crimes they did. {\cf2\super [35]} Why? Because they refused to obey the Lord’s commands. They didn’t keep his commands. Their ancestors {\cf2\super [36]} believed \{lies\}. And those same lies caused the people of Judah to quit following God.
