“Announce this to all nations!\par Lift up a flag and announce the message!\par Speak the whole message and say,\par ‘The nation of Babylon will be captured.\par The god Bel {\cf2\super [407]} will be put to shame.\par The god Marduk {\cf2\super [408]} will be very afraid.\par Babylon’s idols will be put to shame.\par Her idol gods will be filled with terror.’\par

People will see what God has done.\par They will tell other people about him.\par Then everyone will learn more about God.\par They will learn to fear and respect him.\par

Tell people that God is truly wonderful.\par Tell people everywhere about the amazing things God does.\par

People worship their idols.\par They brag about their “gods.”\par But those people will be embarrassed.\par Their “gods” will bow down\par and worship the Lord.\par

Then you will say,\par “Praise the Lord!\par Worship his name!\par Tell all people about the things he has done!”\par

Look! They are coming! I see rows of men and horse soldiers.”

The kings of Assyria have burned the gods of those nations. But those were not real gods. They were only wood and stone—statues that men made. That is why the kings of Assyria could destroy them.

At that time, Merodach Baladan son of Baladan was king of Babylon. Merodach sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah. Merodach did this because he heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

Bel {\cf2\super [407]} and Nebo, {\cf2\super [408]} will bow down before me. \{Those false gods are only statues.\} Men put those statues on the backs of animals—those statues are only heavy burdens that must be carried. The false gods do nothing but make people tired.

My people, leave Babylon!\par My people, run from the Chaldeans!\par Tell this news with joy to the people!\par Spread this news to the faraway places\par on earth!\par Tell the people,\par “The Lord rescued his servant Jacob!\par

“You saw and heard what happened.\par So you should tell the news to other people.\par Now I will tell you about new things—\par things that you don’t know yet.\par

\{The Lord says,\}\par “Tell this message to those people:\par ‘Those false gods did not make\par heaven and earth.\par And those false gods will be destroyed\par and disappear from heaven and earth.’” {\cf2\super [81]} \par

Those idols are worth nothing.\par They are something to make fun of.\par In the time of judgment,\par those idols will be destroyed.\par

“Nations, listen to this message\par from the Lord!\par Tell this message in the faraway lands\par by the sea:\par ‘God scattered the people of Israel\par But God will bring them back together.\par And he will watch over his flock (people)\par like a shepherd.’\par

“Report it to this nation. {\cf2\super [28]} \par Spread the news to the people in Jerusalem.\par Enemies are coming from a faraway country.\par Those enemies are shouting words of war\par against the cities of Judah.\par

Raise the signal flag toward Zion. {\cf2\super [21]} \par Run for your lives!\par Don’t wait!\par Do this because I am bringing disaster from the north. {\cf2\super [22]} \par I am bringing terrible destruction.”\par

“Announce this message in Egypt.\par Tell it in the city of Migdol.\par Tell it in Memphis and Tahpanhes.\par ‘Get ready for war.\par Why? Because people all around you\par are being killed with swords.’\par

Babylon will fall,\par and that fall will shake the earth.\par People in all nations will hear about\par

Lift up a flag against the walls of Babylon.\par Bring more guards.\par Put the watchmen in their places.\par Get ready for a secret attack.\par The Lord will do what he has planned.\par He will do what he said he would do\par against the people of Babylon.\par

“Lift up the war flag in the land!\par Blow the trumpet in all the nations!\par Prepare the nations for war against Babylon!\par Call these kingdoms to come fight\par against Babylon:\par Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz.\par Choose a commander to lead the army\par against her.\par Send so many horses\par that they are like a swarm of locusts. {\cf2\super [422]} \par

One messenger follows another.\par Messenger follows messenger.\par They announce to the king of Babylon\par that his whole city has been captured.\par

I will punish the false god Bel {\cf2\super [428]} in Babylon.\par I will make him vomit out the people\par that he swallowed.\par The wall around Babylon will fall.\par And other nations will stop coming\par to Babylon.\par

The time will surely come—\par I will punish the false gods of Babylon.\par And the whole land of Babylon\par will be put to shame.\par There will be many, many dead people,\par lying in the streets of that city.\par

The Lord says,\par “The time is coming, when I will punish\par the idols of Babylon.\par At that time, wounded people will cry\par with pain everywhere in that country.\par

But Babylon will suddenly fall\par and be broken.\par Cry for her!\par Get medicine for her pain!\par Maybe she can be healed!\par

Jehoiachin, the king of Judah, was in prison in Babylon for 37 years. In the 37th year of his imprisonment, {\cf2\super [448]} Evil-Merodach, the king of Babylon, was very kind to Jehoiachin. He let Jehoiachin out of prison in that year. This was the same year that Evil-Merodach became king of Babylon. Evil-Merodach set Jehoiachin free from prison on the 25th day of the 12th month.

So, listen, all you nations!\par Pay attention, you people in those countries! {\cf2\super [42]} \par

The Lord allowed Nebuchadnezzar to defeat Jehoiakim king of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar took all of the dishes and other things from God’s temple. Nebuchadnezzar carried those things to Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar put those things in the temple of his idol gods.

And Nebuchadnezzar said to those men, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you don’t worship my gods? And is it true that you didn’t bow down and worship the gold idol I have set up?

Those people will be afraid of the Lord! Why? Because the Lord will destroy their gods. Then all the people in all the faraway lands will worship the Lord.
