Moab will not be praised again.\par Men in Heshbon will plan Moab’s defeat.\par They will say,\par ‘Come, let us put an end to that nation.’\par Madmenah, you will also be silenced.\par The sword will chase you.\par

This is a sad message about Moab: {\cf2\super [157]} \par One night, armies took the wealth\par from Ar, Moab.\par That night, the city was destroyed.\par One night, armies took the wealth\par from Kir, Moab.\par That night, the city was destroyed.\par

My heart cries with sorrow for Moab.\par People are running for safety.\par They run far away to Zoar.\par They run to Eglath Shelishiyah.\par The people are crying as they go up\par the mountain road to Luhith.\par The people are crying very loudly\par as they walk on the road to Horonaim.\par

And now the Lord says, “In three years (the way a hired helper counts time) all those people and the things they are proud of will be gone. There will be a few people left, but there will not be many.”

The Lord’s power is on this mountain.\par And Moab {\cf2\super [239]} will be defeated.\par The Lord will trample (walk on) the enemy.\par It will be like walking on straw\par in a pile of waste.\par

The Lord, the God of Israel, said these things to me: “Jeremiah, take this cup of wine from my hand. It is the wine of my anger. I am sending you to different nations. Make all those nations drink from this cup.

So I took the cup of wine from the Lord’s hand. I went to those nations and I made those people drink from the cup.

The Lord says these things:\par “The descendants {\cf2\super [262]} of Israel will never stop being a nation.\par That would happen only if I lost control\par of the sun, moon, stars, and sea.”\par

“Jeremiah, have you heard what the people are saying? Those people are saying, ‘The Lord turned away from the two families of Israel and Judah. The Lord chose those people, but now he does not even accept them as a nation.’”

The Lord says these things.\par “Jacob, my servant, don’t be afraid.\par I am with you.\par I sent you away to many different places.\par But I will not destroy you completely.\par But I will destroy all those nations.\par You must be punished\par for the bad things you did.\par So I won’t let you escape your punishment.\par I will discipline you, but I will be fair.”\par

All of you people living around Moab should cry for that country.\par You people know how famous Moab is.\par So cry for him.\par Say,\par ‘The ruler’s power is broken.\par Moab’s power and glory is gone.’\par

The nation of Moab will be destroyed.\par Why? Because they thought\par that they were more important\par than the Lord.”\par

“People have run from the powerful enemy.\par They ran to safety in the town Heshbon.\par \{But there was no safety.\}\par A fire started in Heshbon.\par That fire started in Sihon’s town {\cf2\super [391]} \par And it is destroying the leaders of Moab.\par It is destroying those proud people.\par

“People in Heshbon, cry!\par Why? Because the town of Ai is destroyed.\par Women in Rabbah of Ammon, cry!\par Put on your clothes of sadness and cry.\par Run to the city for safety.\par Why? \{Because the enemy is coming.\}\par They take away the god, Milcom. {\cf2\super [397]} \par And they will take away Milcom’s\par priests and officials.\par

I will break Elam to pieces\par while their enemies are watching.\par I will break Elam in front of those people\par that want to kill them.\par I will bring terrible troubles to them.\par I will show them how angry I am.”\par This message is from the Lord.\par “I will send a sword to chase Elam.\par The sword will chase them\par until I have killed them all.\par
