Jeremiah 31:5

You farmers of Israel will plant\par fields of grapes again.\par You will plant those vineyards on the hills\par around the city of Samaria.\par And those farmers will enjoy the fruit\par from those vineyards.\par

Those people planted seeds in their fields.\par They planted grapes in the field.\par And they had a good harvest.\par

The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: ‘In the future, my people will once again buy houses, fields, and vineyards in the land of Israel.’”

They will live safely in the land. They will build houses and plant vineyards. I will punish the nations around them that hated them. Then the people of Israel will live in safety. And they will know that I am the Lord their God.”

“But mountains of Israel, you will grow new trees and produce fruit for my people Israel. My people will soon come back.

I will bring my people, Israel,\par back from captivity.\par They will build the ruined cities again.\par And they will live in those cities.\par They will plant fields of grapes,\par and drink the wine they produce.\par They will plant gardens,\par and eat the crops they produce.\par

So I will change Samaria into\par a pile of rocks in the field,\par a place ready for planting grapes.\par I will push Samaria’s stones down\par into the valley, leaving nothing\par but the foundations!\par

Each person will sit under his own grapevine and fig tree.\par No person will make \{them\} afraid!\par Why? Because the Lord All-Powerful\par said it would happen like that!\par

The Lord All-Powerful says,\par “At that time, people will sit and talk\par with their friends and neighbors.\par They will invite each other to come sit under the fig trees and grape vines.”\par

Is there any man here that has planted a field of grapes, but has not yet gathered any of the grapes? That man should go back home. If that man dies in the battle, then another person will enjoy the fruit from his field.

“You will be engaged to a woman, but another man will have sexual relations with her. You will build a house, but you will not live in it. You will plant a field of grapes, but you will not gather anything from it.

The priest said to David, “I don’t have any ordinary bread here, but I do have some of the Holy Bread. [180] Your officers can eat it if they have not had sexual relations with any women.” [181]
