And I will prepare an agreement between you and me. This agreement will also be for all your descendants. This agreement will continue forever. I will be your God and the God of all your descendants.
So that day, the Lord saved the people of Israel from the Egyptians. And later the people of Israel saw the dead bodies of the Egyptians on the shore of the Red Sea. [95]
Moses read the scroll with the special Agreement written on it. Moses read the Agreement so all the people could hear him. And the people said, “We have heard {the laws that the Lord has given us}. And we agree to obey them.”
Then the Lord said, “I have seen the troubles my people have suffered in Egypt. And I have heard their cries when the Egyptians hurt them. I know about their pain.
God saves me.\par I trust him.\par I am not afraid.\par He saves me.\par The Lord YAH is my strength.\par He saves me.\par And I sing songs of praise about him. {\cf2\super [139]} \par
This will be a sign to show that the Lord All-Powerful does powerful things. Any time the people cry for help from the Lord, the Lord will send help. The Lord will send a person to save and defend the people. That person will rescue the people from other people that do wrong things to them.
What gives you the right to hurt my people? What gives you the right to push the faces of the poor people into the dirt?” My Master, the Lord All-Powerful said these things.
Why? Because I, the Lord, am your God. I, the Holy One of Israel, am your Savior. I gave Egypt to pay for you. I gave Ethiopia and Seba to make you mine.
You did not remember me.\par You did not even notice me!\par So, who were you worrying about?\par Who were you afraid of?\par Why did you lie?\par Look, I have been quiet for a long time—\par and you did not honor me.\par
Nations \{will give you everything you need\}.\par It will be like a child\par drinking milk from its mother.\par But you will ‘drink’ riches from kings.\par Then you will know that it is I, the Lord,\par who saves you.\par You will know that the Great God of Jacob protects you.\par
God, you are the Hope of Israel!\par You save Israel in times of trouble.\par But now it seems like you are\par a stranger in the land.\par It seems like you are a traveler that only stays one night.\par
I tell you these things so you will learn a lesson. I want you to fear and respect me. If you do this, then your home won’t be destroyed. If you do this, then I won’t have to punish you the way I planned.” But those bad people only wanted to do more of the same bad things they had already done!
The Jews refuse to accept the Good News, {\cf2\super [128]} so they are God’s enemies. This has happened to help you non-Jews. But the Jews are still God’s chosen people. So God loves them very much. God loves them because of \{the promises he made to\} their fathers.
Israel, you are blessed.
No other nation is like you.
The Lord saved you.
The Lord is like a strong shield protecting you.
The Lord is like a powerful sword.
Your enemies will be afraid of you.
And you will trample their holy places!”
