So Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, went back to Nineveh and stayed there.

King Hezekiah heard those things, and he tore his clothes and put on the rough cloth {that showed he was sad and upset}. Then he went into the Lord’s temple. [233]

After all these things that Hezekiah had faithfully done happened, Sennacherib king of Assyria came to attack the country of Judah. Sennacherib and his army camped outside the fortresses. {\cf2\super [390]} He did this so he could make plans to defeat those towns. Sennacherib wanted to win those towns for himself.

It is true that Assyria {\cf2\super [292]} will be defeated with a sword. But that sword will not be a man’s sword. Assyria will be destroyed. But that destruction will not come from a man’s sword. Assyria will run away from God’s sword. But the young men will be caught and made slaves.

Their place of safety will be destroyed. Their leaders will be defeated and leave their flag.

Yes, you were upset at me.\par I heard your proud insults.\par So I will put my hook in your nose.\par And I will put my bit {\cf2\super [356]} in your mouth.\par Then I will turn you around\par and lead you back the way you came.’”\par

Look, I will send a spirit against Assyria. \{The king of\} Assyria will get a report warning him about a danger to his country. So, he will go back to his country. At that time, I will kill him with a sword in his own country.’”

”Nineveh {\cf2\super [2]} is a big city. I have heard about the many evil things people are doing there. So go to that city and tell the people to stop doing those bad things.”

So Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to Nineveh. Nineveh was a very big city. A person had to walk for three days to travel through the city.

\{If you can be upset about a plant,\} then surely I can feel sorry for a big city like Nineveh. There are many people and animals in that city. There are more than 120,000 people in that city that did not know they were doing wrong! {\cf2\super [15]} ”

They will use their swords\par and rule the Assyrians.\par They will rule the land of Nimrod {\cf2\super [65]} \par with swords in hand.\par They will use their swords\par to rule those people.\par But then \{the Ruler of Israel\}\par will save us from the Assyrians\par who will come into our land\par and trample our territory.\par

This book is the vision {\cf2\super [1]} of Nahum from Elkosh. This is the sad message about the city of Nineveh. {\cf2\super [2]}

And the Lord will turn north and punish Assyria. He will destroy Nineveh—that city will be like an empty, dry desert.

On the judgment day, you people that live now will be compared with the people from Nineveh, {\cf2\super [180]} and they will be witnesses to show that you are wrong (guilty). Why? Because when Jonah preached to those people, they changed their hearts and lives. And you are listening to someone greater than Jonah, \{but you refuse to change\}!
