Nebuchadnezzar carried all the things in God’s temple away to Babylon. He took all the valuable things from the temple, from the king, and from the king’s officials.

God showed Isaiah son of Amoz this sad message about Babylon.

“Babylon is the most beautiful of all kingdoms. The Babylonian {\cf2\super [144]} people are very proud of their city.

Is this the same man that destroyed cities\par and changed the land into a desert?\par Is this the same man that captured people\par in war and would not let them go home?”\par

The Lord breaks the scepter {\cf2\super [147]} of evil rulers.\par The Lord takes away their power.\par

In anger, the king of Babylon beat people.\par He never stopped beating people.\par That evil ruler ruled the people in anger.\par He never stopped hurting people.\par

Those people from Moab were forced\par to leave their homes.\par So let them live in your land.\par Hide them \{from their enemies\}.\par The looting will stop.\par The enemy will be defeated.\par The men that hurt other people\par will be gone from the land.\par

I have seen something very terrible\par that will happen.\par I see traitors {\cf2\super [205]} turning against you.\par I see people taking your wealth.\par

“So Babylon, sit there and be quiet.\par Daughter of the Chaldeans, {\cf2\super [411]} \par go into the darkness.\par Why? Because you will no longer be\par ‘The Queen of the Kingdoms.’\par

“Those people hurt you.\par But I will force those people\par to eat their own bodies.\par Their own blood will be\par the wine that makes them drunk.\par Then every person will know that\par the Lord saved you.\par All people will know that\par the Powerful One of Jacob saved you.”\par

The Lord made you.\par With his power he made the earth!\par And with his power he spread the skies\par over the earth!\par But you forget him and his power.\par So you are always afraid of angry men\par that hurt you.\par Those men planned to destroy you.\par But where are they now?\par \{They are all gone\}!\par

I will now use my anger to punish the people that hurt you. Those people tried to kill you. They told you, ‘Bow down before us, and we will walk on you!’ They forced you to bow down before them. And then they walked on your back like dirt. You were like a road for them to walk on.”

You will be built on goodness.\par So you will be safe\par from cruelty and fear.\par You will have nothing to fear.\par Nothing will come to hurt you.\par

Why? Because you will take away the heavy burden. You will take away the heavy pole on the people’s backs. You will take away the rod that the enemy uses to punish your people. This will be like the time you defeated Midian. {\cf2\super [107]}

“I will punish those people. The punishment will shock all the people on earth. People will make fun of those people from Judah. People will tell jokes about them. People will curse them in all the places where I scatter them.

All of you people living around Moab should cry for that country.\par You people know how famous Moab is.\par So cry for him.\par Say,\par ‘The ruler’s power is broken.\par Moab’s power and glory is gone.’\par

See how the gold has grown dark.\par See how the good gold is changed.\par There are jewels {\cf2\super [25]} scattered all around.\par They are scattered at every street corner.\par

God has given you control and you rule over people and over the wild animals and over the birds. Wherever they live, God has made you ruler over them all. King Nebuchadnezzar, you are that head of gold on the statue. {\cf2\super [16]}

You hurt many people in Lebanon. You stole many animals there. So you will be afraid because of the people that died and because of the bad things you did to that country. You will be afraid because of the things you did to those cities and to the people that lived in those cities.”

I saw that the woman was drunk. She was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people. {\cf2\super [127]} She was drunk with the blood of those people who told about \{their faith in\} Jesus.

Be happy because of this, O heaven!\par Be happy, God’s holy people {\cf2\super [134]} and apostles {\cf2\super [135]} and prophets {\cf2\super [136]} !\par God has punished her because of the things she did to you.’”\par
