I know Ephraim. {\cf2\super [53]} I know the things that Israel has done. Ephraim, right now you act like a prostitute {\cf2\super [54]} . Israel is dirty with sins.
But \{you should be afraid of the Lord. Why? Because\} the Lord will bring some troubled times to you. Those troubles will come to your people and to the people of your father’s family. \{What will God do?\} God will bring the king of Assyria {\cf2\super [89]} to fight against you.
This was the Lord’s first message to Hosea. The Lord said, “Go, marry a prostitute {\cf2\super [1]} that has had children as a result of her prostitution. Why? Because the people in this country have acted like prostitutes—they have been unfaithful to the Lord.”
Ephraim {\cf2\super [127]} is wasting its time—Israel “chases the wind” all day long. The people tell more and more lies. They steal more and more. They have made agreements with Assyria, and they are carrying their olive oil to Egypt.
“Ephraim {\cf2\super [141]} made himself very important in Israel. Ephraim spoke and people shook with fear. But Ephraim sinned—he began worshiping Baal. {\cf2\super [142]}
Ephraim saw his sickness,\par and Judah saw his wound.\par So they went to Assyria for help.\par They told their problems to the great king.\par But that king can’t heal you.\par He can’t cure your wound.\par
Ephraim {\cf2\super [60]} will become empty\par at the time of punishment.\par I (God) warn the families of Israel\par that those things really will happen.\par
I have seen a terrible thing\par in the nation {\cf2\super [67]} of Israel.\par Ephraim {\cf2\super [68]} was unfaithful to God.\par Israel is dirty with sin.\par
“Ephraim, {\cf2\super [63]} what should I do with you?\par Judah, what should I do with you?\par Your faithfulness is like a morning mist,\par Your faithfulness is like the dew\par that goes away early in the morning.\par
“There are many families on earth. But you are the only family I chose to know in a special way. \{And you turned against me.\} So I will punish you for all your sins.”
Why? Because I know about your many sins.\par You have done some really bad things:\par You hurt people that do right.\par You accept money to do wrong.\par You keep justice from the poor people in court.\par
Joseph is like a powerful bull.
His two sons are like bull’s horns.
They will attack other people
and push them to the ends of the earth!
Yes, Manasseh has thousands of people,
and Ephraim has ten thousands.”
Nothing in all the world can be hidden from God. He can clearly see all things. Everything is open before him. And to him we must explain the way we have lived.
