All of the Jewish captives will use those men as examples when they ask for bad things to happen to other people. Those captives will say: ‘May the Lord treat you like Zedekiah and Ahab. The king of Babylon burned those two in the fire!’

The Lord will show his anger,\par so no people will live there.\par Babylon will be completely empty.\par Everyone that passes by Babylon\par will be afraid.\par They will shake their heads when they see\par how badly it has been destroyed.\par

“Strong and powerful men were killed in battle. Those foreigners went down to the place of death. And from that place, those men that were killed will speak to Egypt and his helpers.

Then people will sing songs about you.\par People will sing this sad song:\par ‘We are ruined!\par The Lord took away our land.\par And gave it to other people.\par Yes, he took my land away from me.\par The Lord has divided our fields\par \{among our enemies\}.\par

The enemy catches all of them\par with hooks and nets.\par The enemy catches them in his net\par and drags them in.\par And the enemy is very happy\par with what he caught.\par

“It will be very bad for the leader that does wrong and kills people to build a city.

The Lord All-Powerful has decided that a fire will destroy everything that those people worked to build. All their work will be for nothing.

Then Balaam said these things:

The time is near when all things will end. So keep your minds clear, and control yourselves. This will help you to pray.
