Their horses will be faster than leopards {\cf2\super [2]} and meaner than wolves {\cf2\super [3]} at sunset. Their horse soldiers will come from faraway places. They will attack their enemies quickly, like a hungry eagle swooping down from the sky.

They turned against God,\par so a lion from the forest will attack them.\par A wolf from the desert will kill them.\par A leopard is hiding near their cities.\par The leopard will tear to pieces\par any person that comes out of the city.\par This will happen because the people\par of Judah have sinned again and again.\par They have wandered away from the Lord\par many times.\par

Their armies have bows and spears.\par The soldiers are cruel.\par They have no mercy.\par The soldiers come riding on their horses,\par and the sound is loud like the roaring sea.\par They stand in their places, ready for battle.\par They are ready to attack you,\par city of Babylon.\par

The men that chased us\par were faster than eagles in the sky.\par Those men chased us into the mountains.\par They hid in the desert to catch us.\par

“Explain this story to the people \{of Israel\}—they always turn against me. Tell them these things: The first eagle is \{Nebuchadnezzar\}, the king of Babylonia. He came to Jerusalem and took away the king and other leaders. He brought them to Babylonia.

The king of Babylon will come riding through your city. His horses’ hoofs {\cf2\super [214]} will come pounding over your streets. He will kill your people with swords. The strong columns in your city will fall to the ground.

“Put the trumpet to your lips \{and give the warning\}. Be like an eagle over the Lord’s house. {\cf2\super [76]} The Israelites have broken my Agreement. They have not obeyed my law.

\{The enemy\} calls for his best soldiers.\par They stumble as they rush ahead.\par They run to the wall and set up their shield \{over the battering ram\}.\par

Jerusalem’s leaders are like roaring lions. Her judges {\cf2\super [19]} are like hungry wolves that come in the evening \{to attack the sheep\}—and in the morning nothing is left.

\{My coming will be clear, the same as\} any time you see vultures {\cf2\super [376]} gathering, you know there is a dead body.

The followers asked Jesus, “Where will this be, Lord?”

“The Lord will bring a nation from far away to fight you. You will not understand their language. They will come quickly, like an eagle coming down from the sky.
