And the seven years of hunger began, just like Joseph had said. No food grew anywhere in any of the countries in that area. But in Egypt, people had plenty to eat! Why? Because Joseph had stored the grain.

And the seven thin, sick-looking cows and the seven thin heads of grain mean that there will be seven years of hunger in this area. These seven bad years will come after the seven good years.

But then there will be seven years of hunger. People in Egypt will forget how much food there had been in the past. This famine [237] will ruin the country.

For seven years, people had all the food they needed. But then those years ended.

I heard there is grain in Egypt for sale. So let’s go there to buy grain. Then we can live instead of just letting ourselves die!”

The time of hunger was very bad in that country.

I will take care of you during the next five years of hunger. So you and your family will not lose everything you own.

The time of hunger became worse. There was no food anywhere in the land. Egypt and Canaan became very poor because of this bad time.

Elisha talked to the woman whose son he had brought back to life. Elisha said, “You and your family should move to another country. Why? Because the Lord has decided that there will be a time of hunger here. This time of hunger will be in this country for seven years.”

God caused a famine {\cf2\super [550]} in that country.\par People did not have enough food to eat.\par

But all the land of Egypt and of Canaan became dry. It became so dry that food could not grow there. This made the people suffer very much. Our fathers could not find anything to eat.
