Galatians 3:16

Easy To Read Version

God made promises to Abraham {\cf2\super [35]} and his Descendant. {\cf2\super [36]} The Scripture does not say, “and to your descendants.” {\cf2\super [37]} (That would mean many people.) But it says, “and to your Descendant.” (That means only one person; that person is Christ.)

I will bless people who bless you, and I will curse people who curse [71] you. I will use you to bless all the people on earth.”

The Lord appeared [72] to Abram. The Lord said, “I will give this land to your descendants.”

Then God led Abram outside. God said, “Look at the sky. See the many stars. There are so many you can’t count them. In the future, your family will be like that.”

But God said to Abraham, “Don’t worry about the boy and the slave woman. Do what Sarah wants. Isaac will be your only heir. [115]

Men from Judah’s family will be kings. The sign that his family rules will not leave his family, before the real king comes. [257] Then many people will obey and serve him.

This is the family history of Jesus Christ. He came from the family of David {\cf2\super [1]} and Abraham. {\cf2\super [2]}

God has done what he promised\par to our ancestors, {\cf2\super [17]} to Abraham, {\cf2\super [18]} \par and to his children forever.”\par

You have received the things the prophets talked about. You have received the agreement that God made with your fathers. {\cf2\super [59]} God said to your father Abraham, {\cf2\super [60]} ‘Every nation on earth will be blessed through your descendants. {\cf2\super [61]} ’ {\cf2\super [62]}

In the same way, we are many people, but in Christ we are all one body. We are the parts of that body. And each part of that body belongs to all the other parts.

Abraham {\cf2\super [39]} and his descendants {\cf2\super [40]} received the promise that they would get the whole world. But Abraham did not receive that promise because he followed the law. {\cf2\super [41]} Abraham received that promise because he was right with God through his faith.

So people get God’s promise by having faith. This happens so that the promise can be a free gift. And if the promise is a free gift, then all of Abraham’s {\cf2\super [42]} people can have that promise. The promise is not only for those people that live under the law \{of Moses\}. The promise is for any person that lives with faith like Abraham. Abraham is the father of us all.

They are the people of Israel. {\cf2\super [73]} Those people (the Jews) are God’s chosen children. Those people have the glory of God and the agreements that God made between himself and his people. God gave them the law \{of Moses\} and the \{temple\} worship. And God gave his promises to those people (the Jews).

A person’s body is only one thing, but it has many parts. Yes, there are many parts to a body, but all those parts make only one body. Christ is like that too:

All of you together are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of that body.

Are those people Hebrews {\cf2\super [38]} ? I am too. Are they Israelites {\cf2\super [39]} ? I am too. Are they from Abraham’s {\cf2\super [40]} family? I am too.

So what was the law {\cf2\super [39]} for? The law was given to show the wrong things people do. The law would continue until the special Descendant of Abraham came. This is the Descendant mentioned in the promise. \{The promise came directly from God.\} But the law was given through angels. The angels used \{Moses for\} a mediator {\cf2\super [40]} to give the law to people.

The Scriptures told what would happen in the future. These writings said that God would make the non-Jewish people right through their faith. God told this Good News {\cf2\super [26]} to Abraham before it happened. God said to Abraham, “I will use you to bless all the people on earth.” {\cf2\super [27]}

That secret truth is very important—I am talking about Christ and the church.

Those people don’t keep themselves under the control of the head (Christ). The whole body depends on Christ. Because of Christ all the parts of the body care for each other and help each other. This strengthens the body and holds it together. And so the body grows in the way God wants.

In the new life there is no difference between Greeks and Jews. There is no difference between people that are circumcised {\cf2\super [16]} and people that are not circumcised, or people that are from some foreign country, or Scythians. {\cf2\super [17]} There is no difference between slaves and free people. But Christ is in all those believers. And Christ is all that is important.
