Pharaoh Neco put Jehoahaz in prison at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Jehoahaz could not rule in Jerusalem. Pharaoh Neco forced Judah to pay 7,500 pounds [313] of silver and 75 pounds [314] of gold.

Angry words from a king are like the roars of a lion. But compliments from him are like a gentle rain falling softly on the grass.

If a ruler makes trouble for poor people, he is like a hard rain that destroys the crops.

“Jehoiakim, your eyes look\par only for what benefits yourself.\par You are always thinking about\par getting more for yourself.\par You are willing to kill innocent people.\par You are willing to steal things\par from other people.”\par

You must tell these things to the common people. You must say, ‘The Lord our Master says these things to the people living in Jerusalem and in the other parts of Israel. You people will be very worried while you eat your food. You will be terrified while you drink your water. Why? Because all the things in your country will be destroyed! The enemy will be very cruel to all the people living there.

He went on hunts with the adult lions.\par He became a strong young lion.\par He learned to catch his food.\par He killed and ate a man.\par

Then the people living around him\par set a trap for him.\par And they caught him in their trap.\par

The prophets in Jerusalem are making evil plans. They are like a lion—it roars when it begins to eat the animal it caught. Those prophets have destroyed many lives. They have taken many valuable things. They caused many women to become widows {\cf2\super [176]} in Jerusalem.

I will make the Nile River become dry land.\par Then I will sell the dry land to evil people.\par I will use strangers to make that land empty.\par I, the Lord, have spoken!”\par

You have not made the weak strong. You have not cared for the sick sheep. You have not put bandages on the sheep that were hurt. Some of the sheep wandered away, and you did not go get them and bring them back. You did not go to look for those lost sheep. No, you were cruel and severe—that’s the way you tried to lead the sheep!

This land will be the ruler’s property in Israel. So the ruler won’t need to make life hard for my people any more. But they will give the land to the Israelites for their family groups.”

The Lord my Master used his own name and made a promise. The Lord God All-Powerful made this promise:

Listen, all of you people!\par Earth and everyone on it, {\cf2\super [1]} listen!\par My Master, the Lord will come\par from his holy temple. {\cf2\super [2]} \par My Master will come as a witness {\cf2\super [3]} \par against you.\par
