“‘Then I (God) passed by. I saw you lying there, kicking in the blood. You were covered with blood but I said, “Please live!” Yes, you were covered with blood but I said, “Please live!”

But you, evil king, have been thrown\par from your grave.\par You are like a branch cut from a tree.\par That branch is cut and thrown away.\par You are like a dead man that fell in battle,\par and other soldiers walked on him.\par Now, you look like any other dead person.\par You are wrapped in burial clothes.\par

I will now use my anger to punish the people that hurt you. Those people tried to kill you. They told you, ‘Bow down before us, and we will walk on you!’ They forced you to bow down before them. And then they walked on your back like dirt. You were like a road for them to walk on.”

You left me and did all those terrible things. And you never remembered the time when you were young. You did not remember that you were naked and kicking in blood \{when I found you\}.

\{Jerusalem, you were all alone.\} No one felt sorry for you or took care of you. \{Jerusalem,\} on the day you were born, your parents threw you out in the field. You were still covered with the blood and afterbirth.

“I will punish those people. But some of those people will be like the sticks that don’t burn completely—they will be punished, but they won’t be destroyed completely. You will see that I punished these people, and you will know that I am the Lord!

My enemy said to me,\par “Where is the Lord your God?”\par But my enemy will see this,\par and she will be ashamed.\par At that time, I will laugh at her. {\cf2\super [81]} \par People will walk over her,\par like mud in the streets.\par

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its taste, then it cannot be made salty again. Salt is good for nothing, if it loses its salty taste. It must be thrown out and people walk on it.

I tell you the truth. An \{important\} time is coming. That time is already here. People that are dead \{in sin\} will hear the voice of the Son of God. And the people that \{accept the things they\} hear \{from the Son\} will have life \{forever\}.

I have seen my people suffer much in Egypt. I have heard my people crying. I have come down to save them. Come now, Moses, I am sending you back to Egypt.’ {\cf2\super [135]}

God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to the person that I want to show mercy to. I will show pity to the person that I want to show pity to.” {\cf2\super [86]}

“The Lord your God will force those nations out for you. But don’t say to yourselves, ‘The Lord brought us to live in this land because we are such good people!’ {That is not the reason!} The Lord forced those nations out because they were evil—{not because you were good}.

So what do you think should be done to a person who shows his hate for the Son of God? Surely that person should have a much worse punishment. Yes, that person should have a worse punishment for not showing respect for the blood (Jesus’ death) that began the new agreement. {\cf2\super [137]} That blood once made that person holy. And that person should have a worse punishment for showing his hate against the Spirit {\cf2\super [138]} of God’s grace (kindness).

The grapes were squeezed in the winepress outside the city. Blood flowed out of the winepress. It rose as high as the heads of the horses for a distance of 200 miles.
