Esther 4:4

Easy To Read Version

Esther’s women servants and eunuchs {\cf2\super [14]} came to her and told her about Mordecai. That made Queen Esther very sad and upset. She sent clothes for Mordecai to put on instead of the clothes of sadness. But he would not accept those clothes.

All of Jacob’s sons and daughters tried to comfort him. But Jacob was never comforted. Jacob said, “I will be sorry for my son until the day I die.” [227] So Jacob continued to be sad for his son Joseph.

Jehu looked up at the window. He said, “Who is on my side? Who?”

But when those servants told Queen Vashti about the king’s command, she refused to come. Then the king became very angry.

In every province where the king’s command had come, there was much crying and sadness among the Jews. They were fasting {\cf2\super [13]} and crying loudly. Many Jews were lying on the ground dressed in clothes of sadness with ashes on their heads.

Then Esther called Hathach. Hathach was one of the king’s eunuchs that had been chosen to serve her. Esther commanded him to find out what was bothering Mordecai, and why.

My Master, I come to you\par when I have trouble.\par I reached out for you all night long.\par My soul refused to be comforted.\par

Some people that are not Jews will join themselves to the Lord. Those people should not say, “The Lord will not accept me with his people.” A eunuch {\cf2\super [433]} should not say, “I am a dry piece of wood—\{I can’t make any children\}.”

The Lord says:\par “A sound will be heard in Ramah.\par It will be bitter crying and\par much sadness.\par Rachel {\cf2\super [253]} will be crying for her children.\par Rachel will refuse to be comforted,\par because her children are dead.”\par

So Philip got ready and went. On the road he saw a man from Ethiopia. This man was a eunuch. {\cf2\super [173]} He was an important officer in the service of Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians. He was responsible for taking care of all her money. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship.

He will take one tenth of your grain and grapes. He will give these things to his officers and servants.
