Deuteronomy 29:6

Easy To Read Version

You did not have any food with you. You did not have any wine or anything else to drink. {But the Lord took care of you.} He did this so that you would understand that he is the Lord your God.

They were hungry,\par so you gave them food from heaven.\par They were thirsty,\par so you gave them water from a rock.\par And you told them,\par ‘Come, take this land.’\par You used your power,\par and took the land for them!\par

“I have heard the complaints of the people of Israel. So tell them, ‘Tonight you will eat meat. And in the morning you will have all the bread you want. Then you will know you can trust the Lord, your God.’”

Why should we follow you? You did not bring us into the new land filled with many good things. [203] You did not give us the land God promised. You did not give us the fields or the vineyards. Will you make these men your slaves? No! We will not come.”

“Get the {special} walking stick. Take your brother Aaron and the crowd of people and go to that rock. Speak to the rock in front of the people. Then water will flow from the rock. And you can give that water to the people and to their animals.”

And they all drank the same spiritual drink. They drank from that spiritual rock that was with them. That rock was Christ.

All people that compete in the games use strict training. They do this so that they can win a crown (reward). That crown is an earthly thing that lasts only a short time. But our crown (reward) will continue forever.

Don’t be drunk with wine. That will ruin (destroy) you spiritually. But be filled with the Spirit. {\cf2\super [39]}

But the Lord our God gave him to us. We defeated King Sihon, his sons, and all his people.

“You came to this place, and King Sihon from Heshbon and King Og from Bashan came out to fight against us. But we defeated them.

“So the Lord our God let us defeat Og, the king of Bashan. We destroyed him and all his men. None of them were left.

We destroyed them just like we destroyed the cities of Sihon king of Heshbon. We completely destroyed every city and all the people in them, even the women and the babies.

The Lord humbled you and let you be hungry. Then he fed you with manna [49] —something you did not know about before. It was something your ancestors [50] had never seen. Why did the Lord do these things? Because he wanted you to know that it is not just bread that keeps people alive. People’s lives depend on what the Lord says.
