Stand up! I have chosen you to be my servant. You will be my witness—you will tell people the things that you have seen about me today and the things that I will show you. This is why I have come to you today.

My dear friends, you have always obeyed. You obeyed God when I was with you. It is even more important that you obey now while I am not there \{to help you\}. You yourselves must live in a way that moves you toward your salvation. Do this with respect and fear for God.

But the grace (kindness) that God gives is greater. Like the Scripture says, “God is against proud people, but he gives grace (kindness) to people who are humble.” {\cf2\super [22]}

Invite Jesse to the sacrifice. Then I will show you what to do. You must anoint [143] the person I show you.”

Saul saw the Philistine army, and he was scared. His heart pounded with fear.
