The next day, Paul went with us to visit James. All the elders {\cf2\super [420]} (church leaders) were there too.

These are the names of the twelve apostles {\cf2\super [119]} : Simon (also called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John;

They gathered the money and gave it to Barnabas and Saul. Then Barnabas and Saul brought it to the elders {\cf2\super [232]} in Judea.

Peter made a sign with his hand to tell them to be quiet. He explained to them how the Lord led him out of the jail. He said, “Tell James and the other brothers what happened.” Then Peter left to go to another place.

Paul and Barnabas finished speaking. Then James spoke. He said, “My brothers, listen to me.

Paul and Barnabas were against this teaching. They argued with these men about it. So the group decided to send Paul, Barnabas, and some other men to Jerusalem. These men were going there to talk more about this with the apostles {\cf2\super [297]} and elders. {\cf2\super [298]}

The group sent the letter with these men. The letter said:

Then the apostles {\cf2\super [303]} and the elders {\cf2\super [304]} gathered to study this problem.

In Miletus Paul sent a message back to Ephesus. Paul invited the elders {\cf2\super [401]} (leaders) of the church in Ephesus to come to him.

I went to worship in Jerusalem only twelve days ago. You can learn for yourself that this is true.

I met no other apostles {\cf2\super [9]} —only James, the brother of the Lord (Jesus).

James, Peter, and John seemed to be the leaders. They saw that God had given me this special grace (gift). So they accepted Barnabas and me. Peter, James, and John said, “Paul and Barnabas, we agree that you should go to the people who are not Jews. We will go to the Jews.”
