Let’s go to the Jordan River {and cut some wood}. Each of us will get a log and we will build us a place to live there.”

We work hard with our own hands \{to feed ourselves\}. People curse us, but we speak a blessing for them. People persecute {\cf2\super [26]} us, and we accept it.

It is the same with people that have the work of telling the Good News. The Lord has commanded that those people that tell the Good News should get their living from this work.

But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not trying to get anything from you. That is not my purpose for writing this. I would rather die than to have my reason for boasting taken away.

So what do I get for doing this work? This is my reward: that when I tell people the Good News I can offer it to them for free. This way, I don’t use the right \{to be paid\} that I have in \{this work of telling\} the Good News.

I did the work of telling God’s Good News {\cf2\super [34]} to you without pay. I humbled myself to make you important. Do you think that was wrong?

If I needed something when I was with you, I did not trouble any of you. The brothers who came from Macedonia gave me all that I needed. I did not allow myself to be a burden to you in any way. And I will never be a burden to you.

So you received everything that the other churches have received. Only one thing was different: I was not a burden to you. Forgive me for this!

Brothers and sisters, I know that you remember how hard we worked. We worked night and day. We did not want to burden you \{by making you pay us\} while we did the work of telling God’s Good News to you.

Do all you can to live a peaceful life. Take care of your own business. Do your own work. We have already told you to do these things.
